Here is a photo of Shirley with Bornface, taken in September 2013 during Bob and Shirley’s most recent visit to Kapoma School. He begins high school this month (January 2014), sponsored by Take Heart International.

We recently received a letter from Mr. Lewis Kunda, father of Bornface. It was dated 28 May 2012:

“I must start by thanking you for what you have done to me and to my son Bornface. We had our last trip to Chilonga hospital in April for review. The doctor told me that he is now fine. It is indeed unbelievable, Bornface is able to wear shoes and able to walk freely without using crutches. I may not know the words I can use to thank you, but on behalf of my family and indeed on my own behalf I thank you most sincerely. May God bless you all.”

In the same envelope, we received the following letter from Bornface:

“Let me explain about my family. I am the firstborn.  I have two brothers and three sisters.  In all we are six. To be frank, my father does not do anything.  He is a peasant farmer who just grows enough food for home consumption.  So I am sure he cannot afford to pay my school fees.  Please, your kindness to me is highly appreciated in advance.

“I am now in grade 8 at Chungu Basic School.  I am trying my level best to work very hard and I will not disappoint you.

“When I finish school, I want to be a doctor, so that I will be in a better position to help other people as I have been helped by you.  I am very grateful for what you have done for me.  I am able to walk without crutches.  May God bless you.”

We thank all our friends who have contributed to the successfully surgery (and shoes) for Boniface.  The thanks go to all of you.

Bornface has had his first surgery. His foot is straighter and is now in a cast. He has new crutches, and will return to the clinic for a checkup on January 11, 2012. You can see that the other foot is still uncorrected.

Boniface presurgery

Take Heart International helped this 14 year old boy, Bornface Kunda, and his father, Lewis, travel to meet with an orthopedic surgeon in Lusaka, Zambia.  As the picture shows, Bornface has club feet, and walking the 3 km to and from school every day is very painful.  The surgeon determined that he is a good candidate for surgery.  Bornface and his father will soon travel to the city so the boy can receive surgery on one leg and foot. Take Heart will ensure he receives the medical care he needs.
